Week 12 Day 1

Yeah, I totally dropped the ball on this since last week. I’m working on another project and switching gears a little. I’ll update this sporadically between now and when this other thing is done.

In the meantime…

Yesterday I went to Robert’s house late in the afternoon. It seems like every time I walk into his house in the afternoon, he’s doing a slightly derivative version of the same thing. He opens the door, gives me a hug, walks into the office and scans something. Sometimes, the door is open and he doesn’t even turn around.

I wished him a Happy Earth Day and he sighed and said he hates Earth Day, and the environment. I asked why, but either his answer was unclear, or I wasn’t paying attention. Although, he could have just said, “Because” or something like that. Not uncommon.

He also does that thing where he starts a sentence and walks into the other room to finish it. As someone who doesn’t always hear so well, I sometimes depend on facial expressions and context for a lot of conversation. It’s why I hate talking on the phone and how I can have a conversation in the car with the windows down on the freeway.

Eddy used to tell me to clean the cum out of my ears and listen. It’s crude, and I think no one was supposed to know we spoke to each other using the brand name vulgarities we preferred, but come on… It’s Eddy.

Robert is just leaving the patient place and starting to get irritated at having to repeat himself. With summer around the corner, I’ll be much less likely to follow him into another room to finish a conversation. Instead, I’ll just be where he leaves me and listen for his tone to rise at the end of a sentence so I’ll know if he asked me something, and I can just say something like, “That sounds fine,” or “Yeah.”

I was starving when I walked in yesterday. It was four o’clock and all I had eaten was a balance bar and a red bull. If I’m hungry, it’s nearly impossible for me to decide where to eat. It’s why I rotate between the same four places for meals.

Robert suggested we go to the 101, a small diner about a half mile from his place in Beachwood. I said it was fine.

“Shall we walk?” he asked.
“Well, it is Earth Day.”
“Then we should both drive.”
“Who?”
“I’ll just meet you there.”
